The Helton Community Center has music every Thursday night. People from all around come to hear the fast and hard driving bluegrass and old time music. Larry Pennington plays banjo in the traditional three finger style and sings. He can be found here each week unless he is playing a show out of town. Spencer Pennington backs him up with a strong rhythm and sings harmony. O. L. Parker keeps them all tightly together with the old Kay base and sings harmony as well. Dean Sturgill is a good hard driving fiddle player that can work with bluegrass or old time music. He is a good story teller and a good friend. Dean has a box full of awards he has won through the years from playing the fiddle with local groups and solo at the festivals. His knowledge of the music is apparent when you here him play. Dean also tries to encourage new comers to lean the styles of music played by these seasoned veterans of bluegrass and old time.
